'The prevention of hate crimes. The transgender case', a lecture by Fernando Barragán

This talk will review the most relevant legal regulations in Spain and Latin American countries on the protection of transpeople. Some practical examples of case law against hate crimes and national laws that allow people to change of their identity will be discussed. Protection against hate crime in the media will be a core issue examined in this talk.
We will also analyze the concept of gender, patriarchy and the issues of crossborder discourses and identities as well as some explorations of the meaning of transpeople as a human right to change identities. Our teacher training programmes will be presented at the end of the talk as a global educational solution.
Fernando Barragán teaches at La Laguna University (Tenerife, Spain) and has lectured on trans, gender and sexuality issues in countries such as Germany, Poland, France, Canada, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Perú, Colombia and Ireland.
